The Operations of All the Twelve Months Volunteers; Including a Complete History of the War with Mexico Embellished with Correct Engravings, From Drawings by the Author by George C. Furber, of Company C. Cincinnati: J. A. & U. P. James 1848 First Edition Early issue of the first edition, with the rare 1848-dated title page, using the complete first-edition sheets of 624 pp. and including the folding map “Mexico and the Adjacent Provinces.” Octavo, 624 pages, publisher's original gilt-lettered black cloth boards covered with the original brown paper publisher’s issue wrapper/case, a known but scarce James binding style used on transitional or early-release copies. Far scarcer than the standard 1851 issue. Illustrated throughout in black-and-white. Front hinge cracked through, front free endpaper detached, loss to paper cover, tear to top of spine, gutter cracked, some foxing and discoloration, rubbing and wear, previous owner's inscription, else in good + condition.
