Wau-Bun, the "Early Day" in the North-West by Mr. John H. Kinzie, of Chicago [Juliette Augusta Magill Kinzie] With Illustrations New York: Derby & Jackson 1856 First Edition Octavo, 498 pages, rebound in gilt lettered brown cloth covered boards. Illustrated with black and white plates. Ex-library with some of the typical markings. Some rubbing and wear, foxing and discoloration throughout, else in good + condition. Wau-Bun: The "Early Day" in the North-West is a compelling firsthand account of frontier life in the American Midwest during the early 1830s, written by Juliette Augusta Magill Kinzie and originally published under her husband John H. Kinzie’s name. Drawing from her personal experiences living at Fort Winnebago and traveling through what are now Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, Kinzie offers detailed observations of pioneer society, interactions with Native American tribes, and the turbulent events surrounding the Black Hawk War. Rich in vivid descriptions and historical insights, Wau-Bun captures the challenges, dangers, and daily realities of early settlement, while also providing a rare female perspective on the rapid transformation of the Northwest Territory. Though reflecting the attitudes of its time, the work remains an important historical document for understanding early American expansion and Native American relations. The parcel was packaged and wrapped with significant care, I didn’t recognize it was my package at first due to its size…I would’ve gladly paid shipping fees for this kind of extensive packaging. Nothing was damaged during transit and it arrived on time, excellent work! The item itself is also exactly as described by the seller, no more no less. I am well satisfied with this purchase. Great seller!! A+++
Fantastic seller. Contacted me almost immediately with shipping details and an explanation about a potential delay due to the Juneteeth holiday. Book was wrapped in a ridiculous amount of bubble wrap so it would arrive safely. So awesome to have a book from the early 1800s on free trade. This was absolutely a great value and would buy from again! I have zero complaints.
