He wrote, arranged, produced, and played singular piano on many of the rhythm and blues hits that emanated from New Orleans, transforming the definition of his hometown's R&B with his vision. After perfecting his behind-the-board techniques at Joe Banashak and Larry McKinley's Minit imprint as its young A&R man and resident creative genius (as well as Banashak's other labels), Toussaint and business partner Marshall E. Sehorn launched their own Sansu and Deesu imprints midway through the decade.
