NOTES Before Nic Pizzolatto completed his MFA, two of his short stories were published in The Atlantic Monthly. A breakout writer, Pizzolatto was quickly named a finalist for the 2004 National Magazine Award in Fiction. His newfound fame was confirmed by Poets & Writers, when they listed Pizzolatto on the magazine's 2005 list of Best New Writers. He was longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award for a collection entitled BETWEEN HERE AND THE YELLOW SEA in 2006 and shortly thereafter had a story included in the anthology of BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES 2009. Hot off this early success, Pizzolatto published GALVESTON which placed as a finalist for the Edgar Award's 2010 best first novel prize, was named 3rd in Barnes & Noble's 2010 Discovery Award, and won the 2011 Spur Award for Best First Novel from the Western Writers of America. Pizzolatto followed up by making a motion towards screenwriting, finding success with the first season of hit show TRUE DETECTIVE starring Matthew McConaughey. Since his departure from the second season of the show, Pizzolatto has been involved in other TV ventures but has not written another novel. He is rumored to be working as a screenwriter on the newest Marvel adaptation of Blade, projected to come out in 2025.
