Description
This is a RARE, VINTAGE book from 1953, entitled THE BIG BOOK OF WHEELS, 70 THINGS THAT MOVE ON WHEELS . It is by AUTHOR Felix Sutton but the book wouldn't be anything special without the ILLUSTRATIONS by Art Seiden . According to fishinkblog.com , “Art Seiden was a truly astounding artist who (again) very little information is available on the internet. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1918. He received a BA at Queens College and studied for eight years (!) at the Art Students League. Upon entering the illustration field he did corporate and advertising work for some of the largest companies in America: Phillip Morris, Hoffmann-LaRoche, General Motors and Hearst Publications were some of his clients. His distinctive style, best and longest association would have to be in the realm of children’s book illustration, where he ‘cut his teeth’ illustrating “Three Mice and a Rat” by Margaret Wise Brown and Jean H. Berg in 1950. Seiden illustrated over 300 books and was both author and artist of at least 22 children’s books for virtually every major publisher in America, beginning rather appropriately with “My ABC Book” for Wonder Books in 1953. About Sutton, goodreads.com says , “He graduated from the University of Virginia, College of Journalism. He was a newspaper reporter, author, sports writer and editor. He contributed many short stories to national magazines in both the United States and Europe. He was the author of many adventure stories about the old west and early American history, as well as many novels especially for young people.” Assuming this is the same Felix Sutton, poor guy didn't even get his name on the cover of The Big Book Of Wheels! It was PUBLISHED BY GROSSET and DUNLAP and was lithographed in the UNITED STATES. There is some wear at the corners and spine of the book expected of one that is ALMOST 70 YEARS OLD! On the facing page, the paper has separated from the spine. There is one page that has an approximate 2" tear. Please see the photos to get a better idea of the wear. This book is delightful and would be a super item to add to your collection or just to read to the kids. Please check out the other items in my eBay store. You might just find another treasure!
