From 1852, this is a great fine binding leatherbound illustrated edition of The Abbot, by Sir Walter Scott, as published in Boston by S.H. Parker and B.B. Mussey Co. Sized 8x5 inches, Over 500 pages, in two volume paginated separately but bound together. Bound in calf leather with two leather spine labels, marbled boards and page block, 5 raised bands on the spine. The Abbot (1820) is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, one of the Waverley novels. A sequel to The Monastery, its action takes place in 1567 and 1568. It reaches its climax in the escape of Mary, Queen of Scots from Lochleven Castle leading to her defeat at the Battle of Langside and her final departure from Scotland.
